Summary of Prince George's Club History
Words on PG lacrosse past from Charlie Pugh
Posted on:  March 7, 2006

I coached teams from 1988-1995, and was PGCLC president for the last of those years.  I have some pictures and trophies, but coaching, recruiting, and equipment took more time than keeping records.

You may be interested that:

► In 1988, we played in the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA), playing teams in the Baltimore area.

► My Midget Team and our Junior Team practiced and played home games at Magruder Park.

► We played away games at Lutherville, Cockeysville, Towsontown, Overlea, and Columbia.

► We won the MYLA "C" League Championship game versus Cockeysville at the Historic Mount Washington Field (a trophy as proof!).

The Prince Georges County Lacrosse Club was founded in 1974 by Jack Heagy

► Jack Smith, his sons, and several PGCLC players helped continue the program and establish the DeMatha team.

► Jon Parsons and Alex Walsh also established the team at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, coached by Chris Walsh, another Prince George's Club coach.

► Key PG players were Scott Hoppe, Jason Robertson, Troy Hopkins, and Brent Starling.

► Brent graduated from DeMatha and got a scholarship to Limestome College.

► My son's Scott (8) and Mark (12) played too.

► My wife Karen was our Official Scorekeeper.

► Ori Marrioneaux worked at the Naval Academy and helped me coach; his son Cedrick played.

► Ajay Mehta coached the PGCLC Varsity Team.

► We won the WALL (Washington Area Lacrosse League) Championship.  This was before Northern Virginia and Montgomery County had school teams.

► We held PGCLC meetings at the office at Magruder Park.

We had wonderful times.  We put in a lot of work, and everybody loved it.
